The Beggars Opera – Making the staircase

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I want to use a spiral staircase, because I was really inspired to the staircase to the prospect room at Wollaton Hall. It spiralled up to something higher, in both meaning of the word, than everyone else. I saw it as a metaphor for the strive for greatness in wealth, popularity and status. I chose to make the stair case out of metal. It gives a skeletal structure, giving the aesthetic that fits with the rest of the set and also continues the metaphor as Peachum’s climb to the top has no solid foundations.
